COVID-19 Residential Renter Protection

As part of the ongoing response to the Covid 19 pandemic, Governor Lamont recently signed an executive order intended to protect residential renters.

 

The order prohibits landlords from issuing evictions until July 1, 2020. It states that for any rent due in April 2020 landlords must grant tenants a 60-day grace period automatically and cannot charge late fees or interest. For rent due in May of 2020 landlords must grant tenants a 60-day grace period upon request and cannot charge late fees or interest. Landlords must allow tenants to apply any security deposit in excess of one month’s rent to their April. May or June rent.
