In 1907, when Main Street, Bristol was made of cobble-stone, Judge William J. Malone practiced law across the street from the new Bristol Library located on the corner of Main and High Streets. Thomas J. O’Donnell of Bristol soon joined Judge Malone and formed the law firm of Malone & Donnell. So began the firm that evolved into the firm presently known as Furey, Donovan, Cooney & Dyer, P.C.
In 1951, Charles L. Furey of Thompsonville joined the firm and became a named member. He practiced law throughout the firms evolution, until his retirement in 1992. In 1965, the firm merged with the law firm of Donovan and Donovan. Joseph M. Donovan had practiced law in Bristol since 1919, joined in the practice by his son Theodore M. Donovan in 1959. Maxwell Heiman of Farmington joined the firm shortly thereafter. In 1972, Thomas J. O’Donnell was appointed a Judge of the Connecticut Superior Court.
